Keigo Kurusu (来須 圭悟, Kurusu Keigo) is a police officer, so it follows with reason that his diary relates to his work. The "Investigation" diary gives Keigo information of future crimes and activities committed anywhere within the prefecture he is assigned to. Whether or not this means his diary can record events that will happen simultaneously in different locations is still up in the air. Its major flaw is a location issue; his diary is rendered useless at predicting anywhere outside his patrolling district.
Calm, cool and collected, Keigo does not show any outward interest in wanting to win the game. He gives his reason for participating as an effort to stop the murders that will occur if it continues. He makes an effort to recruit some of the other diary holders into his cause, but his main goal is to capture the ones too dangerous to be left roaming free. He was chosen by Deus to balance out the criminals and maniacs that are also taking part in the game. As a high ranking police officer, Keigo naturally carries a handgun with him. He can also mobilize the entire Investigation Division at his command. However, there may be more to his character than meets the eye, as there may be question to where his true alliance lies.
Keigo is first seen when the Ninth takes over the First's school in an attempt kill him. After the Ninth escapes Keigo strikes up an alliance with Yukiteru and Yuno; he is seen helping them cover up several diary related incidents as well as requesting their help when the Ninth is captured by the Sixth. In order to secure the Ninth Keigo, Yukiteru and Yuno help to save the Sixth from a Dead End, revealed to be the Twelfth's doing. After the cage that the Sixth is in is lit on fire by her hypnotized follower Keigo sets off the sprinklers. While the others continue trying to save the Sixth's life from more of her hypnotized followers, and later the Twelfth himself, Keigo is seen making sure that the Ninth doesn't use the chaos to escape. However, Keigo later decides to let the Ninth escape, after exchanging email addresses with her. He later seen giving her various police information via email, including information about the Fifth's infiltration of the First's home.
Keigo later shoots the Tenth in the back of the head while he talks to his daughter, Hinata Hino, Yukiteru, Yuno, Mao, Akise and Kosaka via his dogs collars, signalling to Yukiteru and Yuno for the first time that there may be more to Keigo than there seems.
Keigo later tries to frame Yukiteru and Yuno for the Tenth's death, resulting in their arrests. He plays Russian Roulette with Yukiteru before Yuno shoots his ear off; Yukiteru and Yuno then take one of Keigo's subordinates, Masumi Nishijima hostage in order to escape. Keigo is then seen ordering officers to shoot to kill after Yukiteru accidentally shoots an officer in the chest.
After Yukiteru and Yuno escape Keigo orders the police to keep looking for them. He is seen striking up an alliance with the Ninth, requesting that she act as a bodyguard for his wife and son. After coming into contact with the First and Second, who had followed Keigo's wife into a hospital, the Ninth chooses to betray him, as she had already realized that he would eventually try to kill her, just like he was trying to kill the First and Second. The Ninth then strikes a temporary alliance with the Yukiteru and Yuno in an attempt to avoid all three of their dead ends.
The Ninth reveals that Keigo want's to be God to save his hospitalized son. During the standoff in the hospital the Ninth attempts to negotiate a safe escape by taking Keigo's wife and son hostage, however the deal is refused and Keigo orders the hospital stormed by the SAT. After attempting to kill Yukiteru and Yuno several times, taking both hostage at different points he is shot in the shoulder by Nishijima, who had been filled in on his plotting by the Ninth. Keigo then commits suicide by breaking his diary. Before he does, Keigo makes one last deal with the Ninth, most likely that in exchange for his life, she will save his son's life if she won Deus' game.
